Stop Police Brutality

It’s heinous that the police who beat and raped these women in Mexico are not being held accountable for their crimes. Tell the President of Mexico to take a stand and to not let these crimes go by unpunished!

Petition: Stop Arms Sales to Israel

Published by pheo152 under Human Rights Edit This

The U.S. is the number one supplier of arms to Israel. If we want the attacks in Gaza to really stop, we have to stop being an enabler to this violence.

Please sign this petition today to ask President Obama to stop the weapons sales immediately.

Stop Threats of Violence Against Honduran Workers

Though workers at the Jerzeez factory in Honduras have won the rights to unionize–which was incredibly difficult to do!–Russel Athletic is closing the factory to destroy the union. There have also been reports of the union leaders being threatened with violence–which, in Honduras, is particularly disturbing, as a union leader was recently assassinated there.

Please ask Russel to at least delay the closing of the facotory until the safety of these leaders is secure.

Pardon Me…

…but I just won’t be able to sleep at night knowing that Dick Cheney, John Ashcroft, and other Bush cronies might be pardoned for their crimes in the last few years. With crimes ranging from torture to extraordinary rendition to others, you know and I know and even my toddler’s Mr. Potato Head knows that these people don’t deserve pardons for their reprehensible behavior.

Click here to tell Bush that we won’t stand for preemptive pardons.

You can also click here to remind President Elect Obama to stick to his promise in closing Guantanamo Bay–and to tell him that the U.S. should never stand for torture.

No Torture

Published by pheo152 under Human Rights Edit This

Yesterday was the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Declaration states many things, but one of them is that no one should be subjected to torture, or cruel, degrading, or inhuman punishment or treatment. Hence, we all know where the U.S. has been standing with the Declaration in these past few years–even though we did help pass the Declaration itself.

We need to get back to those roots in not supporting cruel and unusual punishment. Please ask President Elect Obama to make stopping torture a priority while he is in office. You can write him via the Human Rights First website here.
