Jim Quinn, the Homophobe
Radio host Jim Quinn of the program The War Room with Quinn & Rose said this last week: “Gay marriage doesn’t produce anything that the state has an interest in. Gay sex produces AIDS, which the state doesn’t have – or should have an interest in. They should charge homosexuals more for their – for their health insurance than they charge the rest of us.”
Wow–really? So, like, all those men and women who spread AIDS through their heterosexual exploits should be off the hook simply because one of them has indoor plumbing and the other has outdoor? That’s a relief. Here I thought we were trying to move away from discrimination in this country. I’m so happy that it’s alive and well and thriving in the minds of bumbling Stone Age thinkers who weren’t born and blessed with the ability to reason.
(Perhaps we should charge them more for health services, since their words not only cause mental terrorism on those they defame but also deplete the IQs of all their unfortunate listeners, thereby raising costs and needs for mental health services in the country?)
If you’re as pissed as I am about these homophobic, discriminatory and untrue comments being broadcast on a nationally syndicated radio show, be sure to let Clear Channel know:

And here’s a quick action from Care2: If those organic, USDA Certified Lead Poisoned, blah blah blah labels have you confused, they have an easy guide for you to check out what each label means.

Functioning families of equal-marriage partners “produce” EVERYTHING a functional heterosexual marriage “produces”. Including children!
And since when did marriage become about “products” and not about “rights” as well as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”??
What evil, evil people.
Exactly! And if they are worried about the state getting anything from gay marriage–um, hello, real estate? Marriage–as in flowers, clothing, hall rentals, the works? And as far as kids go, I’d say we need a lot more adopting than production these days, and gay parents will make fine parents.
You’re right that he does have a right to say what he believes. But there’s a difference between announcing beliefs as facts; statements like “gay sex spreads AIDS” only perpetuate stereotypes and untrue science; ANY sex can spread AIDS and keeping the stigma attached to the gay community only serves to create more hate and inaccuracy. If Mr. Quinn is so concerned about AIDS he should issue a statement that heterosexual sex also spreads the disease and that it is important to teach abstinence and comprehensive sex education, not blame gay people.
Didn’t John McCain say that he didn’t know that condoms helped to stop the spread of AIDS? Scary! Sometimes I’m ashamed to be straight!
